There is of course a relative dearth of English-language modern RCT research to satisfy formal advocacy and commissioning of psychoanalytic therapy in psychosis, but it is important to note the work of Danish psychoanalyst Bent Rosenbaum and his colleagues who have published promising controlled trial outcome studies [4] of a year of individual weekly supportive psychodynamic therapy for psychosis. Contemporary Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: Evolving Clinical Practice covers the latest applications of psychodynamic therapy for a range of clinical issues, including depression, anxiety, psychosis, borderline personality and trauma. It discusses psychodynamic practice as an evidence-based therapy, providing reviews of outcome and process research.

I provide a psychodynamic approach to therapy. With that said, I also integrate concrete tools to help folks whether their storms, work through obstacles, and cultivate positive relationships. I offer psychodynamic groups, mindfulness and support around somatic symptoms and body awareness.   Psychodynamic therapy is known to be briefer and less intensive than traditional psychoanalytic therapy, but both of them stem from the fundamental theory which accepts that the development of the individual is more or less affected by numerous unforgotten childhood experiences.

Having a central focus (the inability to self regulate or having a fear of elevators, for example) can help tease out the most important issues which inform the structure of each session and helps identify treatment goals. 1,2 “Psychodynamic therapy is known for its focus on the patient-therapist relationship and also on the patient’s relationship to the external world and to her life. Psychodynamic family therapy is an approach to family therapy that integrates classical Freudian psychoanalytical theory’s interest in the unconscious aspects of individual personality development and function with an interest in the social context, and especially the family context, in which individual and relational dysfunction develops.

In classical psychodynamic group therapies, the techniques are more strictly interpretive about characteristic defenses and transference reactions of the members towards the group leader and each other, or, interactions are interpreted about the group as a whole with an emphasis on group concerns rather than those of the individual.

Psychodynamic approaches improve mental health but attempt to create other positive changes that go beyond symptom-reduction, such as improved self-awareness and more authentic relationships.
